Amman, September 8 (Petra) – The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) launched a media-focused awareness initiative in Amman on Monday to counter terrorism and combat incitement through traditional and digital media platforms.

The event was attended by Minister of Government Communication Mohammad Momani, IMCTC Secretary-General Major General Pilot Mohammad Maghidi and Assistant Representative of the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces for Administration and Human Resources, Brigadier General Khalil Dajjah.

As part of the initiative, a three-day workshop titled "The Role of Traditional and Modern Media in Spreading Community Awareness to Prevent Terrorism" is being held in Amman.

The workshop brings together Jordanian journalists, media professionals, subject matter experts and members of the Military Media Directorate to discuss the media's role in preventing extremism.

Momani highlighted the strategic partnership between Jordan and Saudi Arabia, particularly in counterterrorism, describing it as a model for regional cooperation.

He said that defeating terrorism requires education, critical thinking and media literacy especially among youth, who are often the primary targets of extremist propaganda.

He warned that one of terrorism's most dangerous modern tools is the use of disinformation and psychological manipulation to undermine public trust in institutions.

He called for the development of strong media partnerships to promote objective and balanced discourse.

Momani said that the media is the first line of defence against extremist narratives and praised Saudi Arabia's leadership in guiding the coalition of 43 member states.

Reaffirming Jordan's commitment, Momani added that the Kingdom is a founding member of the IMCTC since 2017 and continues to actively participate in its efforts under the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II.

He said that terrorism is a transnational threat, requiring sustained regional and international collaboration to eradicate its roots and ideology.

Major General Maghidi stated that the launch of the initiative reflects the coalition's firm in the power of media to influence public perception and counter extremist ideology.

He said the workshop aims to equip media professionals with the tools needed to combat incitement, raise public awareness and respond effectively to propaganda.

The workshop will explore several themes, including: The role of traditional media in raising preventive awareness; The use of digital platforms and influencers to reach youth; Techniques for debunking misinformation and exposing extremist ideologies; The importance of media ethics, accuracy and avoiding incitement.

Participants will identify technical, social and political challenges faced by media institutions and propose innovative solutions to strengthen the media's role in counterterrorism.

The Amman workshop serves as a platform for knowledge exchange and capacity-building, aligned with the coalition's vision to enhance cooperation among member states and promote regional stability through strategic media engagement.
